Let’s look at three great, but very different, Learn French software programs and see which is best for you.
Rocket French
As you you’ve probably noticed, one of our (and our customers) favorite software programs is Rocket French. The program is great value for your money. It’s also a very effective learning tool that is easy and fun to use.
Is it the best French software program for you, though? Maybe. Let’s look at the questions I mentioned above.
What is your current French speaking level?
Rocket French is a very simple, easy-to-use program that is great for beginners. So, if you’re new to learning the French language, Rocket French is probably a great course for you. If you’re a more advanced learner, on the other hand, this program is going to be a bit simple for your needs. For a more advanced program, look at our next product, Tell Me More French.
What are your learning goals?
The Rocket French program is designed to get you speaking French as quickly and painlessly as possible. And it does a great job of doing that. What it doesn’t do is go deep into French grammar. It teaches the basics of grammar and sentence structure, sure, but the focus is always on communication. So, if learning to communicate is your primary goal, and if you’re a beginner, then Rocket French is a good choice for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a deep, scholastic understanding of the French language, again, Tell Me More French
What’s your learning style?
The Rocket French program is primarily an audio-based program. So, if you like audio-based learn French software programs, you’ll love Rocket French. Rocket French does include written dialogues and an assortment of learn French software games. The core learning, though, takes place in the interactive dialogues. If you like a ton of “busy work,” go with Tell Me More French.

Tell Me More French
Tell Me More is another one of the world’s most popular learn French software programs. While I generally recommend Rocket French, this product is far better for certain individuals.
What is your current French speaking level?
Tell Me More French, of course, has a beginners program. Some think it’s okay. Others, however, find that it moves a little too fast. If you’re really good at picking up languages, or if you’re willing to work through a bit of a learning curve, this product is great. If you’re an intermediate or advanced learner, definitely go with this product. No other learn French product is better for advanced learners.
What are your learning goals?
Tell me more has 3 learn French software programs, general French, Business French, and a homeschool version. If your a beginner and your goal is just to learn how to speak French, I would go with Rocket French. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a deeper, more scholastic, understanding of French grammar and sentence structure, along with learning to speak, go with Tell Me More. Also, if you want to learn business French
, Tell Me More has the best product on the market.
What is your learning style?
Do you like lots of “busywork?” If so, this is definitely the learn French software course for you. It’s got more games and activities than any other program on the market. Games include everything from word searches to sentence construction activities to word-picture association games–and much more! There is, of course, speaking practice as well, but the focus of this course is the “busy work.”

Pimsleur French
The Pimsleur method is known throughout the world for producing great language learning results. The course is 100% audio-based–no reading, writing or grammar practice.
What is your current French speaking level?
The Pimsleur French program has beginning to advanced levels, The program is best known, though, for producing great results for beginners, mostly because you start speaking from the first second you start the program. So, if you’re a beginner, and you only want to learn to listen and speak, this is a great program for you. If you’re a beginner and want to focus on listening and speaking, but also want learning games, written dialogues, and basic grammar and culture lessons, go with Rocket Chinese.
What are your French learning goals?
This is an important question when looking at the Pimsleur software program. The reason, of course, is because this product only teaches spoken communication. There are no reading lessons, no writing lessons, and no grammar lessons. If you want those things, go with another product.
What’s your learning style?
Again, this is an important question. Some people are great audio learners. They love Pimsleur French. People who prefer to do a lot of word games and sentence construction activities, on the other hand, prefer either Rocket French or Tell Me More French. How do you like to learn?

My Recommendations
My recommendations are very similar. If you want an all around great product that focuses on speaking French, but that also includes basic grammar lessons, go with Rocket French.
If you are an advanced French learner, of if you love to learn by doing lots of “busy work,” go with Tell Me More French.
And, finally, if you want to learn to speak French, but aren’t interested at all in grammar, reading, or writing lessons, go with Pimsleur French. Note: Do yourself a favor and check out Rocket French before buying Pimsleur. In the end you might like Pimsleur better, but I kind of doubt it.
Best of luck to you!
Sincerely,
Ryan Wiley
