Want to know how to learn French fast? Of course you do! And I’m about to tell you. Before I get started, though. I’d like to make something clear. …learning French doesn’t have to be difficult. It doesn’t have to be painful, and it doesn’t have to take years and years to master!
I know. I know. Everybody says that, but, listen, I have been living overseas for over a decade now–in four different countries that speak 4 different languages! I don’t even like learning languages, but I’ve had to do it! Why? Because I like to eat! …and if I want to enjoy a meal, get something to drink, or take a taxi back to my apartment, I have to speak the local language where I live. So, if you want to learn French fast, follow the plan I’ve laid out for you below.
How to Learn French Fast Step 1: Grab Some French Language Software
For quite a few years, I have been earning a living as a language learning textbook author, so it pains me to say this, but…….books are dead! By dead, of course, I don’t mean that I hate books. On the contrary, I love them, just not for language learning. Why? Because you can’t interact with them. You can’t use them to record your French pronunciation. You can’t have simulated French conversations with them, and you can’t play French language learning games with them. They are “dead.”

French learning software, on the other hand, is alive and well and ready to help you learn French fast. With software, you can play fun, stimulating, interactive games to learn new vocabulary, master verb conjugations, and improve your listening skills. And that’s just the start! The best thing about French learning software are the interactive dialogues! Not sure? Check out the Rocket French FREE 6-day course (you don’t need a credit card or anything–just an email). You wanted to know how to learn French fast, and now you’ve got step number 1–get some French learning software.
How to Learn French Fast Step 2: Define Your Fluency Goals
This is important! In order to have success, you’ve got to define what success is. …so, let’s get something straight right from the start! “Success” cannot be defined as “Speaking like a French person,” or “Becoming fluent in French.” There are different levels of success, and you’ve got to start small, otherwise you’ll burn out. For example, your first French goal could be, “To learn how to order food and drinks using the French language.” That’s a nice, bite-sized goal that can be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.

Then, after you reach that goal, make another one, like “learning how to buy a bus ticket.” Making these small, measurable, attainable French fluency goals will keep you feeling good about your progress, which will keep you motivated. Do this and you’ll learn French fast, and you’ll feel good doing it! …and the best part? If you are using french learning software, all you have to do is formulate your goals using the program’s chapters.
How to Learn French Fast Step 3: Stick to a Plan!
Okay, I don’t want to sound like your mother, but …cramming doesn’t work, especially when learning a language. You want to learn French fast, right? Then don’t disregard this piece of advice. According to one of the most respected linguists of all time, Dr. Paul Pimsleur, the most efficient language learning is done in 30-minute to one-hours sessions completed on a regular basis. That means you need to make a plan and stick to it! Studying for 3 hours once a week is NOT a good plan. You need to set aside 30 to 45 minutes 4 to 5 days a week if you want learn French fast.
How to Learn French Step 4: Speak Out!
I have written 7 language learning books with the title Speak Out! And the name of this website is Speak Out! French. Why am I so enthralled with this name? Because getting French words to come out of your mouth is the single most important thing you can do to learn French fast. That’s not just talk! I have been in the language learning profession for 10 years, and I have been a language learning student for just as long.
I have met people who could get a 100% score on a 1000-word French vocabulary test–but who can’t even order themselves breakfast using the French language! I’ve met other people who who only know a 100 words but who can get by using French in lots of different social situations. The difference between these people is always the same. Those who Speak Out develop the ability to communicate verbally. Those who don’t Speak Out, excel only on written tests. So, how do you learn French fast? ….Speak Out!
